You become a Master Gardener by completing the 12-week Master Gardener course and fulfilling the requisite volunteer hours. The University of Tennessee Extension Service teaches the course which is held at Williamson County Ag Expo Park, beginning in January and ending in April.
Once you have completed the course work, we encourage you to join the Williamson County Master Gardeners Association, Inc. Also, please join us if you are a certified Master Gardener from another state moving to our county.
New Master Gardeners
- Master Gardener certification requirements are 40 volunteer hours for first-time master gardeners. Individuals are responsible for tracking and updating their volunteer hours using the official form which can be downloaded from this site. Hours can also be filled in online by clicking here.

WCMGA Membership Registration to obtain information and an application.
Recertification
- Yearly recertification requirements are 25 volunteer hours and eight hours of continuing education. Volunteer hours can be counted from January through December any given calendar year for re-certification. If master gardeners volunteer more than 25 hours during the year, those hours cannot be accumulated and rolled over to the next year.
- WCMGA meeting count as one hour towards continuing education hours. Educational seminars, conferences, workshops and lectures all fulfill continuing education hours.
